The virtual world has grown with tremendous speed. There was a time that letters were posted and written. Some reached so late that the person who waited almost expired. There was telegram with few important words within a budget to inform people on the other side of the hemisphere . Then FAX, yes it had trouble with the machine all the time.
As internet stepped in to conquer the old modes of communication became obsolete. Cards were no longer available randomly, people sent and received e-card. Telephone got replaced by Mobile phone and very quickly, smart phones iPod etc. had captured the market. Now most of the calls were made on internet.
Phone bills reduced and internet bills took over. It was cheaper and faster. Now, we didn’t go shopping we searched online and then we visited to purchase or order online. Trips to market got reduced? No! trips to market increased because now we could find items more easily and conveniently. All the sales were announced with push messages. Ladies were happy and gents , not that much.
Then 2020 saw pandemic, the life screeched to a halt. People were afraid of dying which is very natural and now internet played a vital role. Retail, banking, education and information flowed across the world as people remained locked inside their houses.
Sometimes I wonder if this led to all information pouring into the internet and getting caught in the web. Everyone must have logged in and sent some sort of information. Those who hack or monitor the websites know a lot more about us.
But then who cares! Privacy was not present when we sent postcard which literally had everything exposed. Our smart phones locate us and pass our personal data to the satellite. Sometimes I wonder what is the use of it? Except for tracing criminals, or finding money transaction. Normal people hardly have anything to hide and their life was simple before and is simple still.
